Golden paragraph: Stavros Kassinos holds an Associate Professor position in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Cyprus and is the Head of the Computational Sciences Laboratory (UCY-CompSci). The primary research activity of Stavros in SimInhale is the use of high fidelity computer simulations for the prediction of drug deposition in the airways, in particular the prediction of regional deposition for various combinations of inhaler devices, patient groups (based on age or health status) and formulations. In this regard, he is interested in the development of In Silico In Vivo Correlations (ISIVCV) for deposition. In collaboration with other SimInhale members, Stavros is also pursuing the development of hybrid models coupling the upper airways to the alveolar region, e.g. using LES methods for the upper airways with reduced models for the deeper airways. Finally, in collaboration with other SimInhale members, he is looking into numerical techniques for modeling the fate of drug particles after deposition.
