Golden Paragraph: Andjelka Kovačević finished PhD thesis “Lipid nanoparticles stabilized with polyhydroxy surfactants – formulation, characterization, stability and drug incorporation” in 2015 at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Cosmetology, Faculty of Pharmacy – University of Belgrade, Serbia. During her PhD studies she was a guest researcher at Institute of Pharmacy, Free University of Berlin, where she performed experimental part of PhD thesis under supervison Prof. Dr Cornelia M. Keck and Prof. Dr Rainer H. Müller. She has started working with Prof. Eliana Souto (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra, Portugal) in 2014.
The primary research activity of Dr Kovačević in SimInhale is partical engineering and formulation development for local/systemic action. In this regard, she is interested in the design of aerosol formulations and integration of particle/formulation engineering with inhaler design for optimal lung delivery. Moreover, she is also interested in the safety assessment of engineered particles. In that sense toxicological investigation of the enginnered particles, i.e. selection of soluble substances that are non-irritating to the lung epithelium and safety concerns over excipient toxicity to lung tissues is part of the project she is interested in.
