Golden Paragraph: Dr. Valen-Sendstad is currently employed as a research scientist in the Computational Cardiac Modeling Department at Simula Research Laboratory, Norway. During the first stages of his scientific career, Valen-Sendstad’s work focused around development of open-source numerical algorithms for solving the Navier-Stokes equations that governs fluid flow. The developed fluid flow solvers were later used to study blood flow in intracranial aneurysms – sick balloon-shaped blood vessels inside the brain that can burst and cause stroke. Over the years Valen-Sendstad has been working on investigating the extent and role of turbulent-like flows in the cardiovascular system. The published results have been very controversial, but backed up by irrefutable evidence. Valen-Sendstad has had impact on the scientific fields of vascular biology and neuroradiology, to mention a few. Valen-Sendstad is currently also focusing on applications of fluid flow in the human airways, especially targeting drug delivery.
